Sirois Tool President Receives Prestigious Award

In October, Sirois Tool CEO and President Alan Ortner attended Engage 2023, the National Tooling and Machining Association’s (NTMA.org) Precision Manufacturing Conference in Indianapolis, where he was surprised to receive the L.A. Sommer Memorial Award.

Per the NTMA, this recognition is awarded “for outstanding and continuing service of the highest magnitude. Emphasis is placed on service to the Association by a regular member, both of the highest order and over a period of time, connoting excellence in a particular role in NTMA, rather than as a participant in a single event.”

Named after Louis A. Sommer, a manufacturing pioneer and visionary, the award acknowledges those who have made significant contributions and demonstrated a profound commitment to manufacturing.

“I’m humbled and honored to receive this recognition,” Ortner said, “and I’m grateful to the NTMA and my industry peers, who work hard every day to advance manufacturing in the U.S.” Ortner and Sirois Tool have a long history of active participation with the NTMA and similar organizations that support the manufacturing industry.

Ortner served two 3-year terms on the NTMA Executive Committee, including two years as (2021 & 2022) as Chairman. During this time he also served on the board of the National Tooling and Machining Foundation (NTMF) and the board of Advanced Manufacturing Practice and Education Development (AMPED), which is now part of the NTMF. The non-profit is focused on supporting and funding manufacturing education, building skills, and increasing awareness of career opportunities in the industry.

Sirois Tool is a member of the NTMA and the Connecticut Tooling and Machining Association (CTMA). The CTMA, a founding chapter of the NTMA, is focused on workforce development and government relations. The organizations work with the local, state, and federal governments to represent the tooling and machining industry.

We congratulate Alan on an award well deserved.
