Quantifying the Value of Your Employee Benefits

January through March is the best time of year to find a job and the ideal time to be evaluating all benefits of an offer. An article published on worldatwork.com last October noted that “almost three quarters of American workers say their benefits matter as much as – or more than – their pay.”
Yet many job hunters are still primarily focused on wages, often rejecting offers that don’t fall within their desired pay range without quantifying the company’s benefits package. This can be a costly mistake!
A Case Study
Wages, while important, are just a fraction of your total financial compensation. For example let’s compare two job offers, starting with their entry-level wages:

At first glance, it appears as though you’d be up $2,080 a year if you worked for company A. But let’s include each company’s benefits package, starting with their 401k matches (rounded to the nearest dollar):

Because Company B’s match is higher, Company A’s alleged $2,080 compensation advantage drops to $1,019 (and we haven’t included the compound interest you’d earn on the increased 401K match over time).
Now, let’s add each employer’s contribution to your health insurance premium:

As you can see, Company B now has the employee compensation advantage over Company A – by $1,381!
But wait! Company B offers profit sharing and gives its employees an annual $1,500 bonus, but Company A does neither. We need to include this data:

Now Company B’s total annual compensation advantage is $5,127!
Furthermore, if Company B offers vision & dental care, tuition reimbursement, free uniforms, etc., and Company A doesn’t, the financial advantage is even greater.
The Bottom Line
This is why it’s so important to calculate the total value of your benefits when evaluating your compensation.
Why Sirois Tool?
Sirois Tool is big (actually, HUGE) on employee benefits.
We’re one of very few companies that pay 100% of their employees’ health insurance premiums. And while offering a 401K match plus profit sharing is unheard of, we do it at Sirois!
We also offer tuition reimbursement, dental and vision insurance, and other benefits that boost our team members’ bottom lines.
And we don’t stop there.
Our work environment and corporate culture are just as important to us as salary and benefits.
Our facility is clean, bright, and climate controlled. We offer on-the-job training, company-sponsored holiday celebrations, annual outings, charitable giving events, and growth opportunities.
We know our employees are our greatest assets – and we demonstrate that as often as we can. We frequently solicit their feedback and value their input. As a result, we have one of the lowest turnover rates in the industry.
We’re hiring now, so visit our careers page today to see all the benefits Sirois Tool offers – and remember to quantify their value!
